……..Set for a Week-long Celebration……..

The Alumnus of Akure Secondary Commercial school have rolled out plans to celebrate the 60th anniversary of their alma mater.

They unveiled the plans during a news conference held at the school premises in Akure, Ondo state and addressed by the chairman, central working committee for the anniversary, an alumnus of the 1975 set, Prince Adebisi Adeniyi

Prince Adeniyi who said the week-long programme also to be commemorated as the founder’s day had been scheduled to run from 13th to 19th of January, 2025, with the aim of celebrating the achievements of the school and its alumni in the last six
decades.

He emphasized that the event would also provide opportunity for the old students to come together and recognize those who had contributed to the school’s development with a view to encouraging the current students to excel in their academic pursuits and give back to their Alma-mater.

Prince Adeniyi explained that the anniversary with the theme “60 Years of Excellence: Building a Legacy of Academic Leadership and Sustainable Innovation,” would feature events such as Awareness Walk, Interface Assembly between the old and current students to share experiences, anniversary Lecture, and Health Talk.

Others are, Inter-School Debate, Novelty match, Inter-House Sport, Unveiling and inauguration of projects by different sets, award night and the unveiling of a 10-Year Developmental Plan that will cater for the needs of the school from 2025 to 2035.

During the news conference which also featured the unveilingof the 60th anniversary logo, the central working committee and representatives of the old students’ association also met with newly admitted JSS 1 students, who were currently undergoing orientation.

Speaking with the student , one of the Alumnus, who is also the Pioneer senior boy of the school, Navy Captain Micheal Fagbote, charged the student to study hard and become great men and women, urging them to always give back to the school after graduating.

Another Alumnus, Mr Feyi Ogoji of the 1980 set who berated government for giving poor attention given to public schools called on well meaning Alumnus of Akure Secondary Commercial School to collaborate and enhance development at the school.

The old students paid glowing tributes to the founders of the school, Late Chief Benjamin Franklin Adinlewa and his wife, Chief Mrs. Ojumirijesu Adinlewa, saying that they both pioneered specialized commercial education in Akure, Ondo State when they established Akure Secondary Commercial school in 1967.
