………As Elizade University, Ilara-mokin Hosts Registrars of Nigerian Universities…..

Parts of the Challenges facing Universities in the country can be traced to lack of strategic planning and implementation of policies

This came up at the 19th Annual Retreat and 76th Business Meeting of the Association of Registrars of Nigerian Universities, ARNU at the Elizade University, Ilara-mokin in Ondo State.

Addressing the gathering of the Universities chief- administrators, The Pro Chancellor of Elizade University, Emeritus Professor Olufemi Bamiro said Universities across the globe were equally facing different financial problems.

Speaking on the theme, “Navigating the Challenging Terrain of University Administration in Nigeria: Retrospection into the Past and Projection into the Future,” Professor Bamiro
identified lack of data, unfavourable policies, mismanagement and misappropriation of funds, international interference as some causes of financial insolvencies in the ivory towers .

The former University of Ibadan Vice chancellor therefore encouraged Universities managements to embrace strategic planning, financial management, evidence based quality and implementable programmes among others to be financially stable.

Also Speaking, Elizade University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Kayode Ijadunola explained that the meeting would pave the way for academic excellence

In a welcome address the host and Registrar of Elizade University , Mr Omololu Adegbenro thanked the erudite administrators for the choice of Elizade University to host the retreat and also appreciated the founder, Chief Michael Ade-Ojo for establishing the university.

The ARNU National Chairman, Mr Ife Oluwole who urged the registrars
to reflect on knowledge gained at the event also spoke on the essence of the annual retreat.

In a remark, the Acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, NUC, Mr. Chris Maiyaki spoke on the need for Universities in the country to embrace digital literacy, functional academic standards and as well produce graduates of better character.

Mr Maiyaki also challenged the registrars to remain functional for the uplift of the citadels of learning through strategic academic planning.

The event brought together key stakeholders in university administrations across the country including Emeritus Professor Bode Asubiojo and the Pro chancellor and chairman of council, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Dr Tunji Abayomi.
