Youths in Ijare community of Ifedore council area of Ondo State have protested the long vacancy in the town’s royal stool with a call for immediate installation of a king.
The youths who led the protest mounted road blocks around the town paralyzing commercial activities as the streets became deserted.
The youths then gave two weeks ultimatum to kingmakers to make nomination for the stool and commence the installation process without further delay.
Speaking with Radio Nigeria, one of the youths leaders , Mr Abraham Ajidahun pointed out that it was high time Ijare had a new king hence the protest.
The youths also took their protest to the palace where the leaders in the community calmed them down and addressed them.
The regent of Ijare, High Chief Olomi Omosebi explained that the youths saw that the town was loosing out in many areas especially from government due to inability to have a king all these while.
The Saloro of Ijare, High Chief Lawrence Fasore admitted that the demand of the youths was reasonable , needed for the development of Ijare town.
Another Chief, High Chief Adedoye Okin however said that the request would be promptly looked .
The stool of Olujare of Ijare became vacant four years ago when Oba Adegbamigbe Oluwagbemigun joined his ancestors.
