The theme of this year’s World Radio Day is Radio and Climate change: A powerful tool for climate action.

From rising sea levels and extreme weather events, to energy, food and water insecurity , the consequences are clear, and tragic.

Prof Ayodeji Oluleye of the Department of Meteorology and Climate Science, FUTA speaks on the effects of climate change.

Radio however remains a vital medium for spreading awareness, educating audiences, and encouraging collective action.

A cross section of broadcasters who spoke with Radio Nigeria in Akure the Ondo State capital said Radio is one of the most accessible and trusted ways to reach people, particularly in remote areas.

So , according to analyst , radio’s role in tackling climate change is more important than ever, offering a platform for conversations that promote environmental sustainability and inspire action

The consensus is that whether through community radio stations broadcasting local climate news, national networks raising awareness about global environmental challenges, radio helps amplify voices and bring people together around a shared commitment to protecting the planet.
