The Ondo State government has commenced the payment of 2.5 billion naira for the Fourth Batch of Gratuities for Local Government Staff, Primary School Teachers in the State
The payment of gratuity to pensioners over time has been an issue of serious concern to government and stakeholders
Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa while launching the payment in Akure
explained that in the last three phases of the initiative, a total of ₦3 billion had been expended to clear gratuity backlogs up to the year 201
2.
He stressed that the era of selective payment based on a pensioner’s location within the power equation in the State, generating so much tension, misgivings and avoidable rat race for access had been put to an end.
With the latest phase, an additional ₦2.5 billion has been set aside to clear the gratuities of retirees from 2013.
Earlier in a remark , the Head of Service, Mr Bayo Philip appreciated the governor saying that the payment of gratuity would give the retirees comfort.
The State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Mr Johnson Osunyemi who spoke on behalf of the retirees also thanked the government.
