The Asagba of Asaba, Professor Epiphany Azinge, has called for the establishment of a federal university in Asaba.
The Traditional Ruler made the call in Abuja when he led a delegation from the Asagba Kingdom in Asaba, Delta State, to pay a solidarity and Thank-you to President Bola Tinubu.
Giving an insight into their discussion, the Asagba of Asaba argued that Asaba had remained the only State capital without a federal university, describing it as worrisome.
He said he spoke with the President on the need for apology for the 1967 Asaba massacre, on which the President said he would find time to pay them a visit.
“We note with regret, and we mentioned it to him the massacre of Asaba pool in 1967,and that our people need some apology if need be”, he stressed.
The Traditional Ruler acknowledged that things had been very difficult, but scored the President high.
“There might be some hiccups here, but on the whole, we score him highly in that regard and we pray for him.
This is a very difficult country to govern – there will always be some criticisms here and there, but on the whole I believe that he’s on the right track, and we wish him the very best”, the Asagba said.
He expressed appreciation for Federal Government’s construction of access road to the 2nd Niger Bridge, and the passing of gas lines through Asaba to Awka.
